This week, Kyle and the boys and I are headed off to Menorca, our first time visiting any of the Balearic Islands. Kyle’s birthday is on Friday (happy birthday bb!) and we’re eager to have some time to relax, go on some long hikes, and spend some time on the beach soaking in some sun. Also exciting is getting to visit Hauser & Wirth, having transformed a naval hospital into a contemporary art gallery.
There are two exhibits opening this weekend, an exhibit of New York sculptor Roni Horn as well as a retrospective of Spanish Sculptor Eduardo Chillida. Plus, you get some beautiful gardens designed by Piet Oudolf as well as outdoor sculptures that line the grounds. I will most certainly be taking many photos that I’m sure I’ll be sharing next week. If you have any recommendations for me please send an email — thefoxisblack@gmail.com.

📳 — Andy Allen wrote a guide to utilizing sound in software design, a must-read for anyone in the field. I’m a daily user of the weather app he created, and everything he does with Not Boring Software is incredibly thoughtful and well-made.
🎨 — Blēo is a “color house” (they sell house paint) based in Copenhagen that collaborates with visionaries in art, architecture, and design to develop essential colors and textures. Similar to Farrow & Ball but collaborating with some really creative folks. I’ve been using their paints as inspiration for my design projects, could be helpful for you as well.
When I saw this loft by Almost Studio my first reaction was being uncertain if I liked it. Reason being was that it was so different from any other loft, or apartment design, that I had seen before. It makes me think of 90s product design, embodying a very “nature meets technology” vibe that feels oddly nostalgic for me. It still feels fresh though, and the choices they’ve made in creating dedicated areas, in a space that’s entirely open, are quite smart.
🥖 — Le Jardin, a patisserie and boulangerie, epitomizes French elegance through its garden-inspired visuals, highlighting the freshness and delicacy of its products. Classmate Studio did a great job of making the brand feel simple and refined, focusing on the breads and pastries as the primary graphic elements. Big fan of those bread sculptures.
🤖 – Daft Punk’s iconic anime film Interstella 5555 is getting remastered and returning to theaters in North America in June. Directed by Japanese manga artist Leiji Matsumoto, ehe anime details the story of four alien musicians who are abducted and disguised as humans by their producer, with a subsequent rescue mission carried out by their pilot Shep. Such a classic.
Viewing Roni Horn's glass sculpture in person was an impressive visual experience to me. Highly recommended.
